Lilian Ruth Buchanan was a British painter and illustrator. She earned a scholarship to Hornsey College of Art at 14 and later studied at Camberwell School of Arts & Crafts. During World War II, she served in the WAAF and painted portraits of her colleagues, some of which were exhibited at the Royal Academy.

Buchanan became a prolific illustrator, working on books by Enid Blyton and H.E. Todd. She was a member of the Royal West of England Academy (RWA) and exhibited widely. She also taught at Swindon College of Art and founded the Eynsham Arts Group in 1970.

She came from a creative family, with her brother, David Buchanan, and her sister, Constance Parish, both involved in the arts. Her work, including The Ops Room, RAF Kenley and Globe Artichokes, remains celebrated for its delicate and evocative style.
